Accepting online payments with Stripe
Connect your own Stripe account so customers can pay by card as they order, with money going straight to you and refunds handled automatically or by hand.
Online payments let customers pay by card the moment they place an order. Restanaut uses Stripe Connect, which means the money goes straight into your own Stripe account, Restanaut never holds your funds.
Connecting your Stripe account
- Make sure your restaurant country is set, Stripe needs it to open the right kind of account.
- Open your restaurant settings page, find the Payment methods card and press Edit.
- Under Online payments, press Connect Stripe and complete Stripe's onboarding steps.
- When you come back and setup is finished, you'll see a 'Stripe connected' badge. Turn on 'Accept online payments' and save.
If Stripe still needs more details, you'll see a reminder to finish the setup. Online payments stay off until Stripe confirms your account can take charges.
How customers pay
- At checkout the customer picks Pay online and is taken to Stripe to enter their card.
- A paid order only reaches your orders page once the payment succeeds, so you never prepare food that wasn't paid for.
- When you accept the order, the confirmation email to the customer also confirms that their payment went through.
Auto refunding rejected orders
If an order that was already paid online is rejected, Restanaut refunds the customer automatically, you don't have to do anything.
- This applies whether you reject the order yourself or it's auto-rejected because it wasn't accepted in time.
- The refund goes back to the customer's original card through Stripe.
- The customer gets an email telling them the order couldn't be fulfilled and that their payment is being refunded.
Manually refunding orders
You can also refund a paid online order yourself at any time, for example if you can only partly fulfil it after already accepting it.
- Open the orders page and select the paid online order.
- Open the More actions menu and choose Refund payment.
- Confirm in the dialog. The refund can't be undone, and the order's payment status changes to Refunded.
Good to know
- Refunds are only possible on orders that were actually paid online, cash and card-in-person orders are settled by you directly.
- Payouts, statements and any Stripe fees are managed in your own Stripe dashboard.
