Add-ons: extras and options for your dishes
Offer paid extras and choices, extra toppings, a sauce, or fries instead of rice, on a single dish or a whole category.
Add-ons are the extras and options a customer can pick when ordering, for example adding extra cheese, choosing a sauce, or swapping rice for fries. You can attach an add-on list to a single dish, to a whole category, or to both.
Creating an add-on list
- Open the menu editor for your restaurant.
- Press the + button on the dish or category and choose Add-ons.
- In the dialog, press '+ Add-on' for each option and fill in its details.
- Save the list. An 'Add-ons' tag with a pencil appears so you can open and edit it again anytime.
- Save your changes.
There is one add-on list per dish and one per category. If a dish and its category both have add-ons, the customer sees both.
What each field means
- Name, what the customer sees, for example 'Extra cheese' or 'Garlic sauce'.
- Price, the extra cost added when it's chosen. Leave it at zero for a free choice.
- Default, whether it starts already selected. For sauces you might mark two as default, and the customer can change them.
- Limit, how many of that add-on a customer can add. A limit of one shows as a simple checkbox; a higher limit lets them pick a quantity.
What customers see
- When a customer adds a dish that has add-ons, a dialog opens, showing the dish's own extras first, then the category's extras.
- Options with a limit of one are checkboxes; higher limits get a quantity picker. Anything marked default starts selected.
- They confirm to put the customised dish in the basket.
In the basket and on orders
Each chosen add-on appears as a priced line under the item and the total updates automatically. The same dish ordered with different add-ons is kept as separate basket lines. Add-ons also show on the customer's order, your orders page, printed receipts and order emails.
Example: fries instead of rice
Add two add-ons to the dish (or its category): 'Rice', marked as default, and 'Fries'. A customer who prefers fries simply unticks rice and ticks fries. Give each a price if the swap costs extra, or leave them free.
